  13. 2 green cardemoms
  14. 1 cinnamon piece

Steps to make to make Lauki Chana Dal Curry

  1. Peel and cut bottle gourd into 2"×2" cubes. Keep aside.
  2. Wash and soak chana dal for 30 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add all whole spices. Let them crackle. Add onion paste, saute for 1 minute. Add ginger-garlic paste.Stir.Add some water and cook for 2 minutes till the raw smell is gone.
  4. Add all powdered spices, stir. Cook till well combined.
  5. Add tomato puree and salt.Mix.Add 1/2cup water and cook on low flame for 3-4minutes. Cook the gravy till oil separates.
  6. Add chana dal, mix. Add 1/2cup water. Cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes. Do not use vent weight, you may use any lid to cover the pressure cooker as well.
  7. After 5 minutes, add bottle gourd cubes, stir. Add 1/4cup water. Cover the pressure cooker with a lid. Cook on high flame till 1 whistle.
  8. Lower the flame and cook for 3-4minutes. Put off flame and let the pressure release itself. Lauki -chana dal is ready to Serve.
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with hot rice /roti.
