- 2 tbsp Oil
- 3-4 Garlic cloves thinly sliced

- Soak dal for 2-3 hours and pressure cook using little water. Do not overcook it. It should be firm yet soft.
- In a cooking pan, heat oil and saute onions until light pink in color. Now add cloves, blackpepper corns, and cumin seeds. Saute them all for a minute more.
Add tomatoes and all the powdered spices as well. Saute until oil starts separating. - Also, add about 1 cup of water. Cover and cook for 15 minutes on medium-high heat. Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil and add thinly sliced garlic cloves and fry until light brown. Add this tempering to the dal.
